South Sudan news update

Updated: Feb 11, 2022

South Sudan is the world’s youngest country having achieved independence in 2011. The country has spent much of the time since independence in a state of civil war, but in February 2020 the government and opposition were able to strike a unity deal to form a coalition government.

This new-found peace has led to a positive economic outlook for 2021 which will see oil exports (95% of exports) reach 180,000 barrels a day. There is hope this will lead to other investors following Agris’ example, helping build the agriculture sector in a country where so much of the population depends on it and the conditions are so well-suited for the production of many high-value crops.
